It has been approximately 16 years since the release of Abhishek Bachchan film starring Guru, directed by Mani Ratnam. The film was a huge hit and was also instrumental in uniting Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai, leading to their marriage in the following months. Now, not many know that AR Rahman had personally trained Maryem to sing the song from the film, and it has been reported that the word Mayya occurred to Rahman, while he was performing Hajj in Mecca. It is said that Rahman, during his trip, heard a man repeat 'Moya Moya', which means water in Arabic, and he really liked the song. He then gave the word to legendary lyricist Gulzar and asked him to incorporate it into the melody he had created while touring Canada. Incidentally, it was the first song Rahman composed for the film that had other tunes like 'Barso Re Megha', 'Tere Bina' and 'Ay Hairathe'.
