The weekend has done the job Article 370. After a very good start on Friday and great growth on Saturday, the film also came alone on Sunday. The collections were rock solid at Rs. 10.25 crores and that is quite positive for this film, which has a new director, Aditya Suhas Jambhale, calling the shots. Even conceiving a film with a theme like this is a challenge in itself and the fact that he has actually executed it well and also in an entertaining manner says a lot about how cinema is evolving in Bollywood.

Just when it was starting to seem like only the massive, hardcore action masala films were doing well at the box office, it's heartening to see a geopolitical drama like Article 370 reach the screens and find a good audience for itself. While one waits to see where it eventually heads, the fact remains that it is a clear success in the making and, at the very least, a shelf life of over Rs. 75 crores are at stake with possibility of Rs. Entry to 100 Crore Club too.

The Yami Gautam and Priyamani starrer has already earned Rs. 25.45 crores and from the looks of it, weekdays would also be pretty stable. That means the first week figures will comfortably exceed Rs. 40 Crore marks and posts that there will be good collections in the coming weeks as well as this is not just one of those routine first weekend or first week movies. Last year, Yami Gautam had scored as a lawyer with shades of gray in omg 2 and now in this rather heroic part in Article 370He has proven his worth once again.

Note: All collections according to production and distribution sources.
