There were two different movies that premiered this Friday: Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. While the first is a quirky comedy, the second is a biopic. Both the films have a completely different target audience base, although they are mainly targeted at multiplexes. In fact, both films had a restricted release, although the first was relatively more widespread.

Box Office: Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar open on expected lines, depend on word of mouthBox Office: Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar open on expected lines, depend on word of mouth

Let's talk about Madgaon Express first. The movie is an off-kilter comedy and if you think the trailer is crazy, then you have to watch the movie to know where it's really going. Starring Divyenndu, Pratik Gandhi and Avinash Tiwary, all popular faces on OTT, it would always be the audience's word of mouth that would be the deciding factor when it comes to theatrical response.

Furthermore, the film is also Kunal Kemmu's directorial debut and hence could have surprised either way. Therefore, the film's release is at par with Rs. 1.63 crores arrive. Yes, Rs. 2 crore would have sounded good, but that shortfall should be addressed today and tomorrow once good jumps occur.

as for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, has been pleasantly surprised. Directorial debut of another actor, Randeep Hooda, also features him in the central role. A polished product that goes into good detail, something that doesn't really happen in many biopics, this one also managed to have a pretty fair opening that was along the expected lines. Anything above Rs. 1 crore would have been a sort of start for the film and here it managed to get Rs. 1.10 crore in a very small release. Now we have to wait to see how the public's word of mouth about the film turns out, because the collections should more than double, taking into account that a good budget has been spent.

Note: All collections according to production and distribution sources.
